Shoothill Berlin ZeitKarte (TimeMap)

History buffs will now be able to travel back in time to see how Berlinโ€™s landscape has changed over the past century, thanks to a fascinating piece of software which overlays historical maps and landmarks with those of the present day on a live Bing Maps platform.

This TimeMap Berlin contains historic maps of the City of Berlin for the years 1869, 1893, 1926 and 1957. Use the TimeScope to move around the map and the Time Slider to see how the city has changed over time.

Below is a details picture of the TimeScope. You can drag it around and use the 3 sliders (marked in yellow) to change the map. On the right side (picture above) you can zoom directly into some famous Berlin buildings.

Discover how Berlin has changed over time!

Try it!

Looks great! ๐Ÿ˜€

Bing Webmaster Tools

Bing has updated their Webmaster Tools. You need to have Silverlight version 4 installed to view the changes.

This big improvement looks good and reveals better crawling statistics from the Bing search engine (bingbot/msnbot) that Google Analytics ignores in most cases. I have checked the same site with Google Analytics (GA) and with the Bing Webmaster Tools (BWT). GA indicated that the only traffic to my site came from Google, Baidu and Yahoo! – and some others. However when I checked the BWT it showed me huge amounts of traffic from Bing. Somebody is ignoring the competition… ๐Ÿ™‚

Some screenshots from the new Bing Webmaster Tools:

They serve the basic statistics from Bing but I guess the tools will be extended in the (near) future with some extra features .

ArcGis Explorer Online: Silverlight + Bing Maps

Wow! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ This is a Silverlight web application that you should see! ArcGis Explorer Online has the natural Windows look and feel thanks to the Ribbon bar. It really looks like the online version of Office.

Glad to see such an application that integrates the smooth Silverlight version of Bing Maps! ๐Ÿ™‚

Spindex Tech Preview tested

A few days ago I announced Spindex. Well today I got my invitation code.

Here is how it looks:

It’s fast, especially the searching, and it has a simple, clean design. I hope this Tech Preview will get some little updates to make it really mature.

If you are using Spindex make sure you give the team some feedback ๐Ÿ˜‰
